the italian job.
looking to get a new outboard to propel danish blue through the coming seasons. the selva oyster 6hp, the black bass 7.5hp or the black bass big foot 8hp might all suit the requirements.
does anyone have any experience of these motors ?

No experience I'm afraid but I've never let that stop me posting before.

Odd that they all weigh the same from the 5hp to the 8. I can understand the 5 & 6 being the same and likewise the 7.5 & 8 but not all four surely?

Does 360 degree steering mean what I think it does? That would be right handy on a wee boat.

There's a 6hp 2T on ebay.

can`t say re the 5 but the other 3 engines appear to be identical apart from the displacement. the 6 is 135cc and the 7.5/8 is 165cc. boring out a bit more of the cast block and replacing it with more alu piston ( all 3 have the same stroke ) so not surprised they all weigh the same.
rather not have a 2str.
i`m attracted by the electric start ( even on the 6 ) which would save the crew`s strength for making the lunch

I hadn't looked that closely. The bigger engines seemed too light (my 8hp 2T is 27kg) so I assumed an error.

the going rate for single cylinder, 6hp / 4str seems to be from 25kg - 27.5kg.
is your 8hp adequate for west coast conditions? our boats will have similar displacements i think. my current motor 5hp / 4str was found a bit wanting at times last summer.
your back yard is a bit more challenging than the clyde :aaaarrrrggggghhhh

ps is your engine 1 or 2 cylinders ?

The 8hp is a reasonable compromise for my two tonnes. Although I occasionally wish for a few more horses or to have the prop a metre lower, I couldn't fit anything much bigger in the hole anyway.

The Venerable Yamaha is a 185cc twin.

my engine is out over the back. i had fancied a 4str / 8hp although i realised the weight was probably excessive. however i went to look at one on thurs and it was apparent that the size was also excessive hence the switch to plan b.
db is only 1.3 tonnes so 6hp with a high torque prop might be the answer.
