That wee laddie sounds almost convincing.... but I'm thinking he hasn't encountered any of our West Coast kelp.... or theirs.

It's likely he hasn't encountered anything more challenging than the Lake Tahoe soft sand he's standing on, which is some 270* kilometers from the salty stuff, and 6000 feet higher.

*I don't think kilometres are allowed in the US of A, given their enthusiasm for all things Imperial. Instead, think 'Glasgow to Inverness, either High Road or Low Road'

Och, I thought the 'received wisdom' for there was to carry and deploy 3 big fat Fortress anchors and deploy them, each on drums of 200m. of 20mm Polysteel like yon bampot Skip Novak.

The 3 Fortress thingies? Not for the thin black soup under your keel, y'understand, but taken ashore and dug in deep unto the peat and tussock grass like yer Cairngorms snow anchors. And you can clip your rubber-dubber onto one o' those lines, so you cannae get lost in the dark comin' back from the pub.

Bilbo - my ageing fruitbat
Please refrain from coming onto this peaceful site and bringing all your YBW nonsense with you
We'll have all sorts of quasi expert anchorers before you can fart and no-one really wants that now do they?
xx

I heard them referred to as Freedom Units the other day. Where's the freedom in ordering a pint and only getting 4/5ths?

Freedom units? Allegedly named after an English kings foot. That the Romans divided into 12 because the Babylonians thought counting in 12’s was easier…

That doesn’t add up.

Duodecimal has more factors, is visually easier for counting stuff,1/32, 1/16, 1/8, 1/4, 1/2, for counting, you have 12 finger joints per hand, ignoring the thumb there are 12 lunar cycles (a bit more than 12) and a circle divides easily into 12 units. It is easier to use and count in 12 if you are illiterate and rely on observations.

According to Google. For example, everyoneone understands the phrase adjust it by 1/16 of a baw hair, but would be confused by 0.0625 of a baw hair. Fud hairs are thicker, which is why the baw air was adopted as a universal reference.
What's that? Dunno! Should we be worried about that? Dunno! How? Ah dunno!
