Henry Bell’s Comet sunk at Craignish Point in December 1820. The wreck was discovered in 2019 and is in quite shallow water. The boiler, bits of the bow and some machinery remains.
Remarkable that such a revolutionary vessel, at the very beginning of steam navigation is still around. The designation allows the public to visit it but makes it illegal to interfere with the wreck or take anything.
Next time your transiting the passage, you are sailing in the presence of history. It was launched in 1812. Fascinating stuff.
