Argyll and Bute Cooncil do it again! What was going to be a benefit for yachties and the town is turning into a cash cow. £3.70 per metre per night,£14.75 for 4 hours, or £5.50 for less than an hour. TOP has complaints of payment with no promised bog code emails and only an answering machine to complain to.
Welcome to Oban!

Absolutely not surprised. The mantra now is cash starved councils, max out revenue streams, cut losses elsewhere.
It will probably be scrapped after a big wind trashes it.

Re: Oban North Pier Pontoons
I seem to remember the price being pretty high last year for an overnight stay, but there was a staff member on hand in reception, the showers were very good ( as were other facilities ). I guess one reason for the high pricing is because they want to maintain the "transit" marina operation and stop people parking there for a week. Pontoon berths are getting expensive now £3.60 p/m in Lochaline for example, they say its the cost of electricity that is one factor.
Re: Oban North Pier Pontoons
That’s a good point on maintaining the transit status.

I never understand or agree why I should be subsidising other boats electricity usage.stevepick wrote: ↑Wed Apr 05, 2023 11:36 am I seem to remember the price being pretty high last year for an overnight stay, but there was a staff member on hand in reception, the showers were very good ( as were other facilities ). I don't have 240v on board, so why should I subsidise? A more equitable arrangement is you should be able to buy cards where you can add credit which is useable across (say) Argyll & Bute marinas.

I think the setup for that would make it even more expensive, you may not be popularAja wrote: ↑Wed Apr 05, 2023 5:35 pm

I think we will see sharp increases in prices at many places this year. I do hope service providers can cover costs otherwise we can expect closure and, or deteriorating facilities. The cost of living tension is not limited to consumers.
Maybe there will be more anchoring and dinghy work, like it was in the past.

Probably curtailed certainly.

Re: Oban North Pier Pontoons
Yachts used to anchor between the North Pier and Corran Ledge, a poor anchorage, but useful for shopping and crew changes when the North Pier could not be used. Anchoring there has now been banned.aquaplane wrote: ↑Fri Apr 28, 2023 12:07 amHave anchoring and dinghy places been lost?BlowingOldBoots wrote: ↑Thu Apr 06, 2023 12:43 pm Maybe there will be more anchoring and dinghy work, like it was in the past.

Please note anchoring is no longer permitted between North Pier and the Corran Ledge moorings, or, on the designated ferry approach routes.
