The Old Forge

Post by wully »

Yahoo!

The Old Forge Knoydart is now in community ownership and plans to open the bar by Easter, renovation required to the kitchen before food can be served.

But so what? Beer and crisps contain all essential nutrients.

Can’t wait to visit again.

Same here, a good wee piece of news for west coast sailors, and great news for the Knoydart community. Its back on the list of places to visit.

We were there last week, the kitchen was closed for refurb so no nosh, beer was fine but not cheap. Plenty of bums on seats, so it looks as if success is in the offing. Best of luck to them and all others who feel they have to take over a local resource for whatever reason.
http://trooncruisingclub.org/ 20' - 30' Berths available, Clyde.
Cruising, racing, maintenance facilities. Go take a look, you know you want to.

The locals have a good history of successful community ownership so hopefully this will be another one.

“For whatever reason” - I heard some hair raising stories about the previous owners behaviour. None of the locals would go there. None.

I was being diplomatic as I had no first-hand experience of the problems, but there were many stories...

I was there early in July, no food, apparently the previous owner left the kitchen in a mess. The pub was busy and the beer was good. best time I have had in there for years. Suffice to say that the previous owner was often in full Basil Fawlty mode when I was there. Glad to see the new owners getting it back to what it once was.
