Delivery Times for New Equipment Getting Very Long
Delivery Times for New Equipment Getting Very Long
Hello (is there anybody out there),
Well I am sitting here comfortably numb behind the wall of my home for the last year and half and it looks like most of the workers are too. I have recently experienced significant delays on new purchases as follows: -
Liferaft from 2 weeks to 6 weeks, materials not available in country, OceanSafety
Fireproof water inlet hose for engine bay, 4 weeks, from ASAP
Quiet Life sound insulation pack of 4, 4 weeks, from ASAP, despite being in stock. Be careful becuase when I last ordered by the meter and ordered 2 meters, they sent me 2 x 1 m bits of hose - you just cant get the staff.
Tri Colour, 4 weeks, Marine Scene
Command Mike, 6 weeks, Cactus Navigation, Japan back log in manufacture of Command Mikes.
So, if you are buying stuff, beware, delivery is not so good with Covid being the main culprit, not Brexit. However, loads of other small stock items as well, U clamps, hatch locks, fire extinguishers, cockpit tent frame end clamps, all on short order and not actually in stock.
So, if you need something urgent it may not come your way so soon.
I need a favour, can someone post some random excrement in the other board index areas as my name just sits there in all of them looking rather desperate and a portent that the end is probably nigh.
Cheers,
Alastair

containers stuck in the "wrong'" locations after a year of disruption
lack of drivers in the UK (that is 100% Brexit stupidity)
factories interrupted by sporadic shut downs (covid)
.....no simple fix in the short term

I've found similar things. Liferaft took months, spares and parts weeks. Nothing much available quickly.

Re: Delivery Times for New Equipment Getting Very Long
Ordered a new prop shaft seal on Thursday, delivery promised for Monday.
Been buying arrows from China, ones made in the same factory to the same spec as ‘brand’ items for less that a 3rd of the cost. Delivered in 3 weeks usually.
Wet suits and windsurfing equipment generally is very hard to come by allegedly. Some delusional brexiteer I know ordered kit in December and it got stuck in customs in Germany, he got it last week. Serves him right.

I ordered a battery charger for delivery to Ardfern, next day delivery but realistically for Argyle I added a couple of days. Got the antifouling done and back in the water.
When two days were up the tracking data told me it would be another week so we headed off sailing
At the top of the Sound of Luing I got a message saying the charger was delivered, 3 hours after leaving Ardfern. We picked it up a week later on our way South.

Re: Delivery Times for New Equipment Getting Very Long
On 22nd April I ordered a 10kg Epsilon anchor, for delivery in "5 to 7 working days".
On May 17th I was told June 18th.
On June 17th I was told June 29th.
On July 2nd I was told July 21st.
On July 21st I was told August 3rd.
I am not holding my breath...
I am not naming the retailer because I don't think it is their fault but rather that of the manufacturer/wholesaler, as other retailers are showing this size as out of stock.

Re: Delivery Times for New Equipment Getting Very Long
An update on the Epsilon.
I had a phone call from the retailer today to say that he had met with someone from Lewmar. He was told that a container of anchors had arrived from China (where they were manufactured) after a lengthy delay, but on arrival the galvanising was found to be unsatisfactory. Lewmar had apparently explored the possibility of getting the anchors regalvanised in the UK but decided this could not be done and were having them remanufactured in China. They were, however, prepared to offer a discount on the stainless version. I shall wait for a galvanised one, hopefully in time for the start of next season.

Re: Delivery Times for New Equipment Getting Very Long
There's now only one anchor manufactured in the UK (in Scotland), and galvanized in Scotland. Available from stock held in Scotland.
But there are difficulties in getting steel, some grades have trebled in price this year alone.

... unfortunately the Knox will not fit on my bow roller, I tried a template in 2018. (As you can see, I haven't exactly been rushing to replace my 40 year-old CQR.)

Re: Delivery Times for New Equipment Getting Very Long
That was my excuse as well but I showed the late and much respected Prof. Knox a photo showing the conflict and he knocked (!) me up a modified hoop version that fitted a treat. Whether the present, also much respected, custodian of the marque would be so accommodating I dinnae ken but if you don't ask ...........

Re: Delivery Times for New Equipment Getting Very Long
I just increased the diameter of the bow roller. Gave me enough clearance for the anchor to sit on the stem head except when on the mooring where I just turn the anchor upside down and lash in position - it's not pretty but effective.
