Yeah the Westerly arrangement seems really strange, having both the Yahoo group AND a forum... definitely not a good idea.
I use a few Yahoo groups and have to agree that it's not the best. Yahoo plaster the online side with ads, and they offer such an incredibly limited amount of space for group documents unless you pay for it. I think it will have to change or die pretty soon.
I'm a member of a couple of sport related forums which have LOADS of different sections, and are incredibly popular... but I guess it could be down to sheer numbers of users.
I've never seen it as an issue anyway as I think most of the users often ignore the "categories" as you call them and instead use the "view posts since my last visit" function, which lists all new posts in a single long list. (See top right of the forum homepage if you've not noticed this feature, extremely handy)
As far as I am aware, Richard and Rich are two different, real, people, and they're most definitely not me!! You might be on to something with the remaining names
