Everyone's got to start somewhere. I remember the old days on here! 41 does seem a bit excessive though.

Stumbled across myself being discussed, so couldn't resist signing up to defend myself!!

Two things:

1. What's the problem with my posts exactly? I'm asking genuine questions and receiving genuine answers... that's what forums are for surely?

2. Yacht Forum... I agree, there are a lot of categories... but it's good that the information on there (well, when there IS some information on there

) is kept organised, instead of a free-for-all like on the PBO forums. I guess a better strategy might be to have fewer to start with, and increase as the forum content grows - but then all of the older posts would either be in the wrong category, or would have to be individually relocated.

Seriously though, it is very difficult to get a sailing forum started in the face of the competition from YBW. BlueMoment (in it's current form) is coming up for it's 5th birthday (Post No. 2) and there are still probably more posts per minute on YBW than BM gets in a day. We love it though and wouldn't have it any other way except for Nick who'd like a bit more advertising revenue.

PS - How many people are Richard, Rich, bobholiday and admin?

It will sort itself in due course. Some will be used & some will be ignored.

Seen it all before. have a look at the Westerly Owners Association which has a myriad organised categories, many of which are rarely used. Westerly Owners Group, on the other hand is a Yahoo group so has no categories & seems much busier as all posts are in the same category!

The Hurley owners are on Yahoo too. Not a good format IMO.

Yeah the Westerly arrangement seems really strange, having both the Yahoo group AND a forum... definitely not a good idea.

I use a few Yahoo groups and have to agree that it's not the best. Yahoo plaster the online side with ads, and they offer such an incredibly limited amount of space for group documents unless you pay for it. I think it will have to change or die pretty soon.

I'm a member of a couple of sport related forums which have LOADS of different sections, and are incredibly popular... but I guess it could be down to sheer numbers of users.

I've never seen it as an issue anyway as I think most of the users often ignore the "categories" as you call them and instead use the "view posts since my last visit" function, which lists all new posts in a single long list. (See top right of the forum homepage if you've not noticed this feature, extremely handy)

As far as I am aware, Richard and Rich are two different, real, people, and they're most definitely not me!! You might be on to something with the remaining names

I've sported the occasional dual ID myself in the early days on here.

Nick was convinced he had two Hurley 22 owners posting but I don't think anyone else was fooled for a minute.

PS. I don't mean the rest of the users on the forum in total btw, I'm pretty sure that all are genuine. I just prefer to keep the admin user for special occasions.
