Bad news..the Lord of the Isles in Craobh shuts next week. For good...they are open for carry out food and drink only until then.

COVID has decimated their custom this year.

No word yet if anyone is taking it over...

Decimate used to mean reduced by a tenth - from the Latin "decem" (10) and mate - euphemism for f*ck - referring to the the punishment of killing 1 in 10 of a cohort.

Anyway, I've always thought LOTI was a bit variable with food quality. And that old wummin frae Maryhill behind the bar, and her attempts at a posh accent when trying to impress visitors gave me the boak. Not that I would have told her that.

The place will always struggle - and the housing cottages or whatever they are supposed to be are starting to look run down which isn't helping. A bit of investment is needed, and maybe getting the bus to run in and out all day instead of just at school time would be a start.

I also heard they had bought the anchorage in Tarbert. Seems to me they lack diversification - lots of similar places all going to be affected by the same economic factors. Although the staycationing new yachties that have been rampaging through in the second hand market might mean plenty of business this summer coming.

Shes not from Maryhill and you’d be wise not to cross her.....

The houses are all privately owned but only a few are lived in with the rest being holiday homes so it’s up to the owners to maintain them. One house has never been occupied (except for a chancer squatting in it for a short while) and the rest only a week or three in the summer or Crimbo/new year.
Not much point in running every bus in as there is no real demand - except for the odd yotty to lazy to walk to the road end

Holt Leisure has a planning application in place for rather a lot of houses. Every hurdle they come across gets addressed, last issue was the sewage, a rather large tank was buried in the ground to address that issue. It will likely happen and as an area of interest due to it's location, I think they will sell as plots, maybe as a development. There is a rather ugly architect designed house right next to the LOTI, in line with the kitchen vent, there is no counting for taste.
