How long do I have to sit on the stupid step...

Post by sahona »

wearing this hat?
Or, put another way, do forum threads last forever, locked in a magnetic/optical substrate, spinning endlessly in a dark, hyper-clean tin box?
As the originator of some  stuff, can I suggest that we are able to request deletion (or at least offline archive) of our less proud moments, thus freeing up gigs of room for worthwhile, educational, helpful, entertaining, professional, waffle.
You see, I am incapable of thinking ahead, and speak my mind rashly, so hate waking up in the morning and reading what I've done.

There, I've done it again, so - this one and the jotter/stars one please.

Yes! :hat

However, you can use the EDIT button to edit your own threads in an emergency. Unlike the forums in TOP there is no time limit on editing.

It is part of internet culture that generally you have to live with the mistakes you make and that forum threads are if not eternal certainly more than momentary. If people delete posts too often the whole medium comes to be seen as ephemeral and untrustworthy, and it can even encourage irresponsible and unsavoury posting because people know they can just go back and delete it later.

(All IMHO of course :D )

Thanks for the info Nick. I understand the logic, I'll just have to think before I write, which of course is unnatural in the extreme. :bananas
