Anyone done this? Would my Bennie 331 be any good for it?

Three Peaks Race

.
Don't see why not. Getting good runners is probably the hardest part.

The entry list for 2008 will be opened at the start of November - website here for anyone else interested.

Don't forget the Scottish Island Peaks as well - that always seems to be an exciting event. They have several classes , and I once met a guy with a Hunter 707 that came third overall.

Nick - didn't "Wee Three" do well in one of those races? We chartered it once, but just for cruising - Mingulay, Barra etc. Nice boat.

Not sure . . .

We Three once came 2nd overall in the Isle of Man race, not sure if she was in the Three Peaks. Certainly a lovely wee boat - she was the first boat Kathy and I chartered on our own.

Parhelion certainly won the Three Peaks in 1998 (Jeanneau Sunshine also owned by Sail NorthWest at the time - no idea if she is still for sale or not)

I think We Three is still for sale . . .

Done the 3 peaks once from Barmouth to Fort William on a Contessa 33. This was in the days before there was a cycling part to it. There used to be a stop at Ravenglass where the boats would dry out on the falling tide while the runners were away doing their thing. I think the run used to be about 32 miles. Now the stop is at whitehaven and they cycle part of the way to Scafell. The boat would be fine for it. But the logistics of getting to Barmouth and having a shore support party to carry the bikes takes a lot of organisation. And an entry fee of £500 per team!!!
The Scottish Island peaks race is a lot more user friendly done over a long weekend. I've done it a few times and loved the experience. If you consider doing it and are looking for crew I could be available.

Ian

PS I don't do running!
