John

It's terribly sad when these things happen. Sheena's advice is to enjoy the company of friends and family when they're here. Make time to see them often, as once they're gone it's too late.

It's heartening to read what others have written as it seems that you are not alone. I always find this time of year difficult - dark nights and short days just does not suit my psyche.

As you are well aware I'm just a boy from the fifties, and as long as my rugby damaged knees hold up I'm up for another season in the cold and wet which is the west coast. All I can do is treasure these gorgeous days of glorious sunshine with a fair wind and good company that we sometimes get and store it for the tougher days.

Keep well, friend, and we'll meet up in the summer.

Best regards

Donald and Sheena

I can't cheer you up but maybe I can make you think about life in the present more positively, even though your friends are passing. Today I received news that a very good friend's daughter has died. She is young, just 23, struggled with life, was clever but had a chaotic existence which took a heavy toll. Also, just over a year ago, my daughters recent ex-boyfriend, (at the time) and only just turned 18, died of a drug overdose, a young man full of life and energy; evidence of an accidental overdose brought on by mischievous friends.

Think about the full life you lead, your experiences, fun and sadness, the time to correct any mistakes, the luck and hard work that has got you to this moment in time. We live in a continuum and most of us get to see that and appreciate our blessings. Spring is just around the corner, with it's promise of a new start.

I am thoroughly cheered up and offer my sincere thanks to all.
Corona, in particular lifted the ageing heart when I read that you can still get it up twice every night - then I re-read it!!
I am happy to be called in as witness when Auld Nick has his rectal exploration - I know a few of Her Majesties' Customs and Circumcise officers - I'll see if I have any influence.
Speaking of HM Customs - I believe she is still fond of Corgis.
And finally - my old pal John Shiels - a legend in his own mind - once had a female locum doctor insert the digit into his orifice in search of the prostate.
Being a man who has to comment on everything, he asked her - mid exploration - whether this meant they were engaged. He confesses to never having regretted saying anything quite so much....

Some love the smell of napalm in the morning. I just love my feet being warm.

Woodburner with back boiler so when the water is up to the temp. set on the thermostat it diverts the heat into the radiators. The underfloor heating is run from the (Calor) boiler via a separate manifold. This is the old central heating system and we calculated that the boiler has the capacity to run the heating system as well as the underfloor heating. I ran two zones - almost the same size - and fit a thermostat on the wall so that we can adjust the room temperature easily. It seems comfortable at 13 degrees.
