Norway Pilot Guide: Den Norske Los

For those wishing to sail in Norway, it seems that the Norwegian Pilot, Den Norske Los, is to be published digitally online rather than in the current PDF format which will be discontinued.

It is intended that the digital version will also appear in English, although the language button on the new version does not seem to work yet - https://dnl.kartverket.no

I printed these all out and used them this summer on our trip to Norway. They are pretty useful for harbour and anchorage plans and for folk who speak scots they are pretty readable once you know a few words.

The "speaking Scots" part of visiting Norway is a curious thing indeed. A pleasantly wide scatter of words are common to both countries. Where "flitting" to a new house and "Braw bairns" mean exactly the same thing. As said one you get your eye in - a lot can be de-cyphered effectively

I only had the Norwegian PDFs and made a fair bit of sense of them.

You could be right about that but I'm pretty certain that I saw another press announcement suggesting that the PDFs would be discontinued once the digital version is up and running. It may be a translation thing, and while I can generally get the gist of Den Norske Los harbour guides, I am stumped by public announcements in Norwegian.

Anyway, either way, probably best to download the most current sets of PDFs just in case......

Its a bit annoying if they discontinue the PDF's, but it is a bit like complaining about a free lunch . One thing we found this summer was ubiquitous 5G phone signal from Lofoten to Træna to Bergen. So the online version should be available pretty much anywhere.

Amazing. We were very impressed by the coverage in our more modest cruising area there, from Silda south of Statt down to Kleppavika in Krossfjord.

Also, more or less constant data access allowed cross checking with the free online charts. We found that with the Norgeskart Android phone app we could download quite large chunks of charting for offline use if we needed it.

Great place. If reincarnation exists, I'd like to come back as a Norwegian.....
