Refurbishing an anchor windlass

I've been given an old South Pacific anchor windlass which apparently runs when connected to a battery. There is a lot of corrosion and three wee black wires not connected.

Does anyone know anyone who would consider checking this out and refurbishing it?

I have a VS1000 south pacific that I went to great lengths (and pain) reinstalling to fix the dreadful bodge the previous owner had done. The motor has now packed up due to the permanent stator magnets coming loose and moving around in the casing. Cutting to the chase - are you interested in selling me the motor if its a vs1000 (or vs600 which would also work)?

It will be the Mitzi Gaynor model.
Sounds like its probably Bali Hai'd but check it out for sunlight on the sand and moonlight on the bay......
If it used to belong to Rogers it will have had some hammerstein along the years

I phoned Boat Gear Direct (uk distributor for south pacific). Amazingly he had an old motor lying around, sent it gratis with me just paying the postage. Top service.

So I now have a load of spares if anyone wants to refurbish the one referred to in this post.

Did you get anywhere with that windlass?My "free" replacement worked twice in Strangford Lough then gave up the ghost. I now have two disassembled VS1000 motors at home (main body and gipsy still on the out of reach boat). I'm just about to order replacement bearings for the motor and try to frankinstein one working motor from the two in anticipation of relaunching at some point. Bearings are a couple of quid each if you want me to double up the order?

I don't know these particular models, but typically the thing to watch out for is the thrust bearing at the end of the worm drive, which does the work and often gets left to take the strain when people don't notch the chain in a proper keeper.
