filming

Post by Little Five »

I am looking for a traditional old world style harbour with stone quay/jetty in the Clyde estuary for use in a TV commercial.
It needs to have enough depth at low water springs to take a 2 metre draught, and the jetty needs to be in reasonable working condition.
Anyone any ideas>
Thanks

There's slim pickings to suit your criteria.
Not many stone jetties.
Not many with that depth
Not many "harbours".

But nearest I can think to even consider are...
Bowling: not really a "harbour", depth might be problematic, and maybe too small?
Helensburgh: It has some stone, but not a harbour.
Strone Point: Stone, not a harbour.
Dunoon: Stone I think, partly, active ferry terminal, not a "harbour".
Rue End Street Greenock, near (west of) James Watt Dock, East India Harbour. This might be best of the lot. Typically has a tug or two sitting waiting a commission, water enough, stone piers, scenic, looks old world enough.

Isn't Carradale sheetpiling? Otherwise very scenic and old world looking.

Thanks very much for the replies everyone. Your time is appreciated
Carradale looks like a viable option .
Other options still welcome.

I don't know what state Inverary Pier is like but we did anchor off last year and climb ashore using a ladder up a stone wall.

There was an effort to dredge a channel into Maidens harbour but I don't know what depth they achieved.
The jetty/breakwater is stone and concrete.
More at http://maidensharbour.co.uk/ if of interest.
Just North of Turnberry.

The pier at Loch Melfort is probably a contender. Depth at all states of the tide and a nice situation to boot.

Thanks Donald. I have not been there by land or sea but looking at photos it does look very good.
Thanks again

As far as Melfort Pier is concerned ( besides bring outside the Clyde ):-

The OP requires 2 m depth at Low water springs.

There is nothing like that at the end of Melfort Pier. In fact the pontoon grounds.

Plus its not exactly " traditional" whan looking towards the Holiday homes.

There is a stone jetty at Armaddy ( roughly opposite Balvicar) but I suspect that it shallow at Low water as well,if outside the Clyde is a feasible

Many thanks all for your contributions, I really appreciate the time you all took to think about it and reply.
Annoyingly the Production company has gone silent on me and is not replying to my communications and I take that as their way of saying we are not coming to Scotland to do this commercial.
Once again thanks to all and Blue Moment for allowing it
