Caribou

Post by spuddy »

Has the migration of those vast herds of caribou begun yet? They head north across the tundra to take advantage of the brief, sub-arctic summer. I just wondered cos I found it difficult to miss Claymore's departure from Fleetwood to exploit a sunny window away from academia and wondered if there was a genetic link.

Excellent post and one that has set me thinking. We didn't spot any carobou swimming across the mouth of the Solway so thought perhaps we'd missed them. The ice floes off each of the Mulls were not significant this year and were hardly of Caribou-bearing dimensions. However - at the top end of Craighouse village we did see something in the water that was at first thought to be a hielan coo - I thought it was probably a wildebeeste but on reading your post, it may well have been a caribou.

The caribou has of course long since closed down in Glasson Dock and been turned into "luxury" apartments. A shame that a place which shaped and influenced forever the life of the young Claymore should meet such an end. Then again, the Barbary Coast - an essential element of any Morecambe pub crawl has similarly faded and gone- where will it all end.
