The Dorlinn

Post by marisca »

As my stalkers no doubt noted, my AIS trail went through the Dorlinn on Saturday. The south perch wasnae there though I guess the concrete base still is. Problem is the passage is only sensible for keel boats when the base is covered so if you can see it, don't go, if you can't see it, it is probably safe except you don't know where the channel is.

Marine Traffic seems to show you still in Oban?

Antares charts will show you where the virtual mark is.

I suspect I'm thinking of the wrong Dorlinn. I was thinking of Campbeltown.

I saw someone try to sail over that one a few years back. Had arrived from Northern Ireland with several small children on board. They were taken off by RNLI, and waited the day for full tide until the yacht could be floated off.

I've not sailed over either of the two Dorlinns.

Sorry, for the avoidance of doubt I was referring to the southern passage in/out of Tobermory Bay. If any of you ever find yourself in the mad motoring race to Tob's pontoons on a Friday afternoon (though you are all much too sensible!) a quick tidal calc can get you there before the 40 footers.
