I like it

We're not chugging round there with 120 tons of coal and 6 inches of freeboard, so Para would understand. And the later bigger puffers/coasters were too big to use the canal anyway.
Nick (VIC32 skipper) told me he had rollers fitted low on the hull to cope with the lack of water in the canal these days. I doubt a fully laden puffer could get through anymore? VIC32 rides pretty light. Interestingly enough - their insurance wouldn't cover them for MOK today... too far away from an approved port of refuge??

It might put off their non-sailing customers too!

I helped bring Chiron to lock 10 from Crinan today, it wasn't my choice, the new owner wanted to go through instead of round.

It seemed much as I remembered it from previous transits.

We locked in about 2 and stopped about 5 and did better than we had planned, only expected to get to Crinan Bridge.

There was one ignorant foreign knob who set off down through 11 despite being told he couldn't continue today. The Canal bloke had to single hand him to a spot where he could overnight.

As Chiron's official Scottish Canal Helmslady I should have been on hand to supervise - mind you the heat would have made me glow quite a bit, currently 25 eg C and 62% humidity
