Better than going to the Gym

Post by Fingal »

Saturday and Sunday heaving sails up a ladder, touching up paint and doing sundry other pre launch tasks. Monday arrived at Barcaldine to find the Green Boat riding nicely at a mooring, then off to Dunstaffnage for a couple of nights with hose and electric to finish cleaning and generally get her ready to rock'n roll.
On Wednesday 2/3 of the syndicate had a brisk sail up the Lynn of Lorn, testing the new furling headsail, a little bigger than the old one and the usual excellent work from Owens. The new autohelm also works so we are happy old geezers.
I am however quite stiff and sore after all that physical effort. I'm sure I will feel the benefit eventually.

I trust you have been watching BBC1 "How to Stay Young". There is a wee quiz at http://www.bbc.co.uk/guides/zg3hk7h to help you gauge your decrepitude. You'll be pleased to know that apparently my body is considerably younger than me!

Did the BBC test and got 45, I am 5 years older than that, like it's accurate. However, I have just had my annual employer check up (Russian Institute of Occupational Health, Moscow) for remote areas and I am fitter and healthier than a year ago, so all this running is working: cholesterol way down low, heart rate low, blood pressure low, gout stuff in the blood low, peak flow way up - all things that have been problematic in the past. They found something that I am not to worry about but I will get it checked out in the UK as I am worrying about it. Getting old is such a bummer as wear and tear and other stuff pops up.

Boat is still on the hard, a full week will be spent getting her ready, then a month away at work, then launch mid May, up to A and R Way at Cairnbaan for some finishing work, then Craobh around July depending on timing of my work / progress of works on boat. Still loads to do after the yard work. Old boats once you start you know you have to keep going as there is no point just replacing worn out stuff only to have to remove it again to replace other worn out stuff.

Still at least I the end is nigh.

Well, I am evidently 55 which is 11 years younger than it says on my documents. It must be all that fresh salty air.

5'5" I'd believe. I would hazard a guess you understated your alcohol intake - the limit was 14 units a week, not a night.

I was honest and it told me I was 83. That's plus 11. I really must get a grip.
