George Orwell

Don't know why but I had an urge to read it this book again. I read when I was a teanager many oatcackes ago.

Fascinating, with some striking parallels with society and politics; far tamer of course: constant war and the reasons for it, the dumbing down of society, styfiling debate, common enemy and borders. Goldstein's book on Oliagarphy sounds prophetic.

A great read and some of the concepts such as doublethink and newspeak are happening already.

Worth a revisit I for anyone who was struck by Orwell's vision first time round.

It’s a long time since I’ve read 1984 but it’s a story that’s always stuck with me.

What surprises me most is how it becomes more relevant every decade. The parallels now are most striking when so much political and topical debate is reduced to the equivalent of the two-minute hate: focused but unquestioning hatred that allows people to be distracted and manipulated.
