Anyone been on one lately?

We had a coffee on Bluberry Hill, a Vancouver 34 Pilot years ago, a very nice boat with a good layout. Bob n Leslie don't have her anymore (So sage of lorne of this parish).

There is one next door to me @ Tayvallich too, I keep looking at it wistfully.

Not been on any other Vancouvers but the 34 Pilot would do me so the search stopped.

Yeah - Blueberry Hill was lovely - a proper wee ship - if you are looking for something of that ilk there is this one at Kip http://www.michaelschmidt.co.uk/yacht-d ... ID=5072283 slightly cheaper than the Vancouver and looks good to me.

I've heard that they are very seaworthy and solid boats, ideal for the west coast. Might not be as fast as an ocean greyhound like a Roberts 34, for example, but a good reliable ship nonetheless. I'm told that the Vancouver 34 Pilot is the sort of boat that folk wi' smelly auld tubs aspire to as they move through the autumn of their mortal existence.

I never considered your Roberts 34 a smelly auld tub - then again, hardly an Ocean Greyhound either. If that is your opinion, perhaps its time to graduate to a Vancouver or Claymore or similar.....

Used to have a Vancouver 34 but sold it about 5/6 years ago. Never considered it slow, perhaps didn't have the top speed of some newer boats but over a longer passage I made some really good times. As you would expect it doesn't have the volume at either end of newer designs but had an excellent saloon. My old boat is up for sale again I see.

Long time no hear - are you still putting out fires or have you moved on to less dangerous pasttimes?
Are you boatless now?

Hi Claymore it is indeed a long time. Not been putting out fires for a while now. Boat shared a Benny 411 with a good friend for 4 years after the Vancouver. Now back to our own boat bought last winter in the Netherlands and sailed back home in May last year via the channel. Just a bit different from the Vancouver as it is a Benny 473. Like to try different boats!

Hi Claymore it is indeed a long time. Not been putting out fires for a while now. Boat shared a Benny 411 with a good friend for 4 years after the Vancouver. Now back to our own boat bought last winter in the Netherlands and sailed back home in May last year via the channel. Just a bit different from the Vancouver as it is a Benny 473. Like to try different boats!

She must be cavernous! We chartered a Jeanneau 43 for the Chents cruise one year and we fitted most of the population of Tobermory in her. Do you keep her in Scotland?

Yes plenty of space. Normally berthed at Kirkcudbright but ashore just now for the winter at Ardrossan. We were up the west coast last year for a while and anchored in the lagoon a few times. I take it that it was your Claymore on a mooring there?

It was indeed, its a great place for a mooring!
Shard is buying a Vancouver which is what prompted the post.
