Old Marine Diesel Engine Wanted

Post by BlowingOldBoots »

Hi,

I am looking for an old marine diesel, or any diesel engine. Something like a Perkins 4108, or an old BMC / Watermota conversion. It's for the boy who is looking to strip it and repair it for education purposes.

I have cash and can collect. The condition does matter but I am not interested ex moorings or smashed castings, it doesn't matter if it is a bit incomplete .

Any ideas or suggestions?

Thanks,

Alastair

don't let me wife see your post as she would point to a partially dismantled perkins 4108 in the garage that apparently is not a valuable source of spares, but is cluttering up the garage. You'd have to wait until the summer to collect it.

I have my 2002 Perkins 3 cylinder 18hp lying in the garage, is going to the scrap yard. Almost complete. Used to run great, but getting it started was a nightmare for some reason, once running would purr away all day perfectly. Right from when it was new it would never start. So was scrapped 2 years ago as just not reliable enough for me with having kids on board. Free for uplift, Im in Perthshire.

Thats what I was thinking. However, when I look in my own shed, I am staggered at the stuff I have accumulated.

+1

My wife has similar opinions about my wheeled vehicle collection, and the upstairs room which is halfway to a chandlery these days, or maybe a sail loft!
