Hi,
I'm considering relocating. Presently I keep my boat on Windermere but having sailed regularly on the West Coast for about 15 years, albeit many years ago, I am pondering trying to find a mooring in Scotland.
What I would be looking for would be a swinging mooring anywhere between Troon and Oban. I'm based in NW England so location would be an issue. On the Clyde I have only found the Royal Northern and Clyde which sounds like the sort of place which wouldn't gladly have me as a member and funds would not run to a marina berth.
Any suggestions would be appreciated

Re: Moorings
Hi. My brother keeps his Yacht at the Royal Northern & Clyde and it is actually surprisingly cheap. The place itself is very grand but the members are all pretty normal. Give them a 'phone, you'll be surprised. ( they even let me in and I don't dress to impress !!)

Then there's Royal Gourock YC - 40+ boats on moorings already with launch and boatman. Again mostly normal people.

You, surely, would never claim to be normal?marisca wrote:Then there's Royal Gourock YC - 40+ boats on moorings already with launch and boatman. Again mostly normal people.

Are all your students on holiday?
The topic of the first Sociology lecture I ever had was "What is normal?" IIRC the theme was that anything and anyone can be regarded as normal. Possibly one of the reasons I went into a proper job.
As for the RGYC, they are a good bunch and quite capable of putting up with me.

Re: Moorings
No I wouldn't claim to be normal or otherwise and the nearest I got to sociology was reading some law.
Many thanks for the advice thus far; much appreciated. I'll have a better look at the two clubs.

There are swinging moorings for rent in Fairlie Bay - some owned by Fairlie Quay and some rented out by somebody who I think lives in Millport.

Re: Moorings
DRB Marine on the Gareloch opposite Rhu have the cheapest maintained moorings that I know of. The yard is a bit rough and ready but the moorings are fine and there are most services you might need.
It is a bit of a trek round the Gareloch but the bay is sheltered in most conditions except strong easterlies.
