Solbian flexible solar panels

Post by Milena_Solbian »

Hi everyone,
the Administrator of this forum gave me permissione to present my company's products.
I work for Solbian Energie Alternative, an Italian company that manufactures flexible solar panels specifically designed for the marine environment. Solbian offers innovative products and produces flexible pv panels designed for the marine industry and other fields. The solar cell efficiency is significantly high, especially in panels of the SP series, which are made of SunPower™ monocrystalline cells, with an efficiency greater than 22.5%. Panels of the latest SX series use “full square” monocrystalline silicon cells with an efficiency that is over 19%, while CP series panels are made of monocrystalline silicon cells, with an efficiency greater than 18%. Solbian flexible photovoltaic panels are lightweight, very powerful and walkable, they are highly resistant to weathering and degrading agents such as thermal shock, fog, salt water and solar radiations.
We propose four different fixing methods to choose from, Structural double-sided adhesive, Stainless steel eyelets, tenax and zip.
You can have a look at some applications in the gallery section of our website.
Please feel free to ask for any further information.

I'm missing something here with these panels.
The smaller ones are rated about 10V open circuit and 8V on load.
So how will they charge anything?

Is it required to convert to AC, transform up a few volts and rectify back to DC at about 13-14V then apply to the boat's circuitry?

What am I not seeing?
Geoff.

I think the clue is the inclusion of "1 x Genasun GV-Boost MPPT Solar Regulator (GVB-8-PB12V)" in the kit. Seems a lot of money for not a lot of electricity - could get a 1kW generator for the same kind of dosh and a fuel cell giving a guaranteed 3.3A even when the sun don't shine is only 3x more.

Right Marisca,
the Genasun GVB controller is a boost MPPT (USA made) electronic device capable of increasing the voltage with a DC/DC conversion and very high efficiency (>98%). By using GVB we can actually charge any battery (12-24-36-48 V) starting from as low as 5 V panel output: http://genasun.com/products-store/mppt- ... ntrollers/
A gasoline generator is surely less expensive than a solar panel, and a fuel cell is ok, but both of them need, obviously, fuel... a 50W solar panel can produce about 250 Wh in a sunny day, that means more than 20 Ah on a 12 V battery, this is the value that must be considered when you want to make a comparison with the boat energy needs. I am not an expert in Fuel Cells, but I think that in order to obtain the same amount of energy with methanol the cost is about 2 Euro/Day while sun is free.

Sam,
the mini rail kit is quite expensive being a complete kit, please look
here or
here
for the price of panels.
