I have just received a message from Hazard who regrets she is unable etc. The OCC currently comprises two single-handers and their boats and now that I come to think of it, DaveS has been maintaining a low profile recently.
In the light of my dismal failure to attract anyone at all to support this once prestigious highlight of the Scottish cruising calendar I feel that the only honourable course open to me is to tender my resignation from the post of Temporary Acting Assistant Cruise Director.
I will still be having a five day cruise though, subject to weather and the requirements of the service of course.
I think under the circumstances, that you have shown courage and determination in attempting to keep the OCC afloat (sorry)
That band of malingering shipjumpers currently aboard Mojomo are easily identifiable as the chief spaniels in the works and I feel strongly that upon their safe return, recriminations and indeed, dire prognostications should befall them. I think the penalties should be considered by a small committee and I would invite you to share this task with myself and other interested parties
Muzzy and I are now leaving Fleetwood Dock on the Friday evening and heading north with all haste. Speaking with he who has known flood water to the height of his genitalia the other evening, on one of his rare visits to our shores, there is an increasing possibility of us meeting somewhere in the outer reaches of the Clyde and proceeding to God's Corner in company. You refer to Avilion and the lack of altitude to his recent presence. I have it in writing that he will be on the water at this time - that will no doubt be confirmed when having read this, he realises that taking this opportunity will re-unite him with a spare gearbox.
I quite fancy coming through the Crinan and it would be good to have your company if you can make it. I think we'll be within striking distance on or around the Monday evening/Tuesday.
Just for clarity and apologies for the vertically challenged profile ...
CC version 1: Sorry to hear that Jill's called off. I'm still intending to participate this weekend, very small and very select as the party now is. I'm booked on a plane due to get in to Glasgow at 1800 on Thursday, so if it's on time I should be able to get to Craobh around 2000. (There's a sporting chance of catching the one before which would get me to Craobh around 1830, which would obviously be much better.) The Loch Melfort Hotel VBs are still a reasonable rendezvous, but unless I get the earlier plane I'll be too late to eat there, so will grab something on the way up. I'll phone once I know which plane I'm on. Any thoughts for where to go? Another attempt at the circuit of Mull, maybe? (I haven't looked at the forecast yet...)
CC version 2: My diary's currently pretty empty around this time, so my current thoughts for a good weather plan are to leave Craobh on Wed 23 May at the latest (maybe a few days before) aiming at Islay then Rathlin the following day, round the Mull into the Clyde for some island bagging (maybe meeting up with Clyde based forumites over the weekend?) and rendezvous with Claymore on Mon 28 at Sanda. Thereafter I would probably go back round the Mull unless the weather was really bad, possibly rendezvousing again with canal transiters somewhere on the 30th.
No boat for this weekend. I'll probably be cleaning it out sans engine and propshaft prior to painting the bilges, having new engine installed etc etc etc.
Not sure when we'll be ready, but I had rather hoped to rendezvous with Claymore for the passage north, but I need to be on the train going south on Tuesday 29th May. That won't give me enough time to do the rendezvous, sail to Appin, and get home in time to pack my bag etc. Altogether, a wee bit of a pisseroo.
I'll keep in touch - an alternative might be to do the rendezvous and leave our boat on the Clyde at the end of the weekend, for delivery later.
. . . see the recent note on the Moorings page re the visitors mooring on Sanda , Dave
Last year Richard was talking about building a pontoon of some sort, I assume for the day-trip-stag-party RIBS. I don't know why he doesn't install a trot of moorings, and maintain them. He does claim that the sand driven through by the current is very abrasive to the chain.
I've lain to his mooring a few times, and no-one has ever mentioned boats going up the rocks from there. Am I just lucky?

Much as I hate to disagree with you, it would reduce the area for anchoring IMHO, and encourage, errmm, the wrong sort of boat. Whose side are you on anyway?
