I have used the keel as a depth gauge lots of times, slow speed waiting for the touch kind of thing. With a lift keel it's no great drama. I tend to be more carefull with the bilge keels.
Clouting a rock when you aren't expecting it is a bit different.

Never hit any on the Scottish west coast so had to post "no" But I have hit dozens (& a few wrecks too) around N Wales.
As pointed out on the other thread, your tiny tides make it a lot easier to anchor near rocks without hitting them. When there is a 11m range & strong currents, one needs plenty of scope out & that can make it hard to miss ALL the rocks in a tight anchorage. Also, a 10% error on 11m is almost 4foot, whereas with a 10' range it is only 12".
