Over at TOP there was a post about the Tiger Mosquito invading France. This is quite a nasty beastie and carries serious diseases around. It can survive in snow and the eggs can survive freezing as well.

Skin so Soft is good - although Avon refuse to acknowledge it as a midge repellent! This year I have a new anti midge potion called "smidge" (produced by the Scottish midge forecast people). Very good recommendations, including from professional mountaineering pals. It claims to also repel clegs and ticks. On board, on the rare occasions that the wee sods venture offshore, I find Moon Tigers work well. I use a Yokoyama Mk 7 holder to let them burn safely.

I thought that Skin So Soft only worked because they couldn't get a grip to bite.

I've just had dinner while sitting outside at the Comfort Hotel, Beaune and there certainly were midges about - lots of trees and a muggy day - but I couldn't see any stripes on them.

A midge attack must be the only time when one regrets giving up on smoking!!
