stainless welding - pulpit repair

Post by mm5aho »

During last weeks blow at Dunstaffnage, when both fairleads were ripped out onour boat, the bow rope (to the pontoon) was forced against the pulpit leg crushing it near the lower part of the leg.
Anyone know of a good place to get a repair - welding of stainless tubing.

Do you mean welding in situ or will you remove it to get it fixed? If you are removing it I would recommend West Of Scotland Engineering:

Good question that I should have made clear.
I'd take the pulpit off for repair. I think welding this in situ is to be avoided, in fact any welding insitu to be avoided!
Thanks for link.

Having studied the pulpit a bit more over this weekends sailing (last of the season for us), I figure its not a repair job but a need for a new one.
There must have been a very severe frontal collision sometime in the past, as the whole frame seems moved backward perhaps 300mm (at top), judging by the strange angle on the feet.

So, do same recommendations apply for a new one?

This chap did a beautiful repair to my stainless mast head fitting at the beginning of the season. He's also done a huge amount of amazing stainless work for my in-laws.

Renton I think. I just dropped off / collected my masthead fitting when he was working for my in-laws, I didn't pay too much attention his home location.
