The Plan Seems to Have Worked

My usual affable bonhomie has been somewhat reduced of late by constant nagging pains in my legs - or I've been more of a cantankerous old bastard than usual. The NHS offered a surgical remedy for July but were cajoled into postponing it until the end of the sailing season. On Monday Marisca was lifted out at JWD, Tuesday I was pre-op probed, Wednesday under the knife for the insertion of some hi-tech packing and today home again with no leg pains, standing up straight for the 1st time in years but not surprisingly feel as if someone has stuck a knife in my back. I'm under strict instructions to do nought for at least 2 weeks and then gradually back to normality. First test is the SIPR prizegiving ceilidh on 3rd November - DWS/StW banned but Gay Gordons/St B's Waltz have the go-ahead.
I should be back to full affability in time for the forum Christmas outing.

Excellent news Alastair,
have you heard the one about the best place to hide a fiver from an orthopaedic surgeon?
mind you making you laugh might make it hurt more....

Congratulations on your successful surgery! However my daughter (the budding surgeon) needs some more information about your problem and the particulars of the procedure than you provided in the OP.

I have an old jockstrap which, although still carrying a faint aroma of wintergreen, is perfectly serviceable. Last used in anger in 1984/5 rugby season and a couple of fancy dress parties in the 90s.
Happy to loan it if the desire to Strip the Willow becomes unbearable.

Ok Liz, I give up. Something to do with ars[/s]es and elbows? Laughing doesn't hurt,though coughing most certainly does.
Thank you all for your good wishes though I'm not quite sure how an athletic support is going to help my back, but I'm sure the offer was made most kindly.

Our bits are connected to our backs - support your bits, support your back.
The weight of dangling bits does put a strain on our back, strap em up and Bingo - bad back better.

Anyone noticed how high pressure, sunshine and gentle zephyrs have settled in since Marisca came out the water? Apparently I'm not even allowed to spread the sails out and hose them down or do anything else vaguely useful. 3 days into two weeks of forced idleness and I'm bored so it's off to TOP to start IRPCS / AWB v MAB / Mobo v Raggie / Plebs v Patrician threads.

Think yourself lucky it's only 2 weeks!

When I had my wee bit of open heart surgery, I wasn't allowed to do anything for 8 weeks. Not even put my dirty plate in the dishwasher!

Talk about bored! I even read one of SWMBO's sickly sweet lovey-dovey books cover to cover!

It was worth the effort though as I've never been in better health since.
