Vodaphone service

Post by sahona »

Bought a Vodaphone pay-as-you-go SIM the other week and put £20 in the account.
All gone and no calls made!!
What they do is load internet settings to your phone via text message, and these settings are configured to activate a service which costs £1 per day whether you use it or not.
I have asked for my money back and we'll see what happens, but just be aware.
This is pertinant boaty by the way, as Vodaphone are reputed to have the best coverage up the West Coast.

Bill

What service is activated? My Dad complains that his phone eats PAYG even though he mainly surfs via home wi-fi and doesn't use the phone to phone that often.

Got me wondering what has been set in the background.

I think it must be Vodafone Simply PAYG internet charges:

"UK mobile internet usage £1 per 25MB per day (up to 125MB, 4p per MB thereafter)"

'Packet data' needs to be switched off in the phone configuration because even if the user is not using the internet the phone itself will be.
If it was indeed switched on by Voda's configuration SMS then that's very bad of them.
I don't think it will have been though - perhaps it was 'on' on the phone when it came out of the box.
Either way, very annoying.

You are right in your identification of the "robbing" service, however it was not already active on the phone as that was not new -only the SIM was involved. I was changing over from Orange to Vodaphone in order to cover more options ,leaving the soup-dragon's phone on Orange.
When I was on Orange I never did any surfing and never lost any units to the angels.
Definately a Vodaphone-instigated happening.
It's all go! Since then that phone has been through a 60degree wash cycle (don't ask!) and I can confirm that Surf cleans all known memories...so some of you have ceased to exist. However, the point is that the replacement, a motorola gleam+ with big buttons and big screen for mature communicators, warns me if I select an icon that may incur costs.
Only downside is that I can't get it to consumate it's relationship with the bluetooth handsfree in the car.(probably a good thing)

You'll need to know / remember / second guess the code for the bluetooth handsfree to allow them to link.

The car radio generates and displays a code and then tells me to type it in from the would-be i/o device.
The phone then "sees" the radio and offers a pairing option.
As soon as I take the pairing option, before I get the function to type in the code, the radio posts an error message.
Every time I go through the loop the radio generates a new pairing code.
I guess there must be a software code level or speed discrepancy, although I believe all bluetooth levels are supposed to be backward compatible.
'Snot terribly important, nobody ever phones me anyway.
