Mast gate spring

Post by Fingal »

The mast gate on our Selden mast is kept closed by a neoprene spring, basically a bit of diving suit material. When the spring disappeared as we arrived in Orkney, where diving suit material is not hard to find, a new spring was easily fabricated. A bit of double sided tape to hold it in place, slip the moving part of the gate back into the track opening and we are in business. No wind today, and far too much forecast, but soon we will be sailing again. Also a much cheaper and quicker solution than having a genuine Selden branded bit of neoprene shipped here from the Clyde.

The follow up, here, is of course to praise MRS in Inverkip who posted a new mast gate neoprene spring to me, arrived on Thursday. No charge, evidently.
