BlowingOldBoots wrote:I am looking for a good timber supplier in the Glasgow area for small quantities of teak and other boaty woods. They should be able to offer off the saw and cut to size and if possible a plane down service. A key quality would be the ability to mind read and work out what I am actually wanting and need for the job i.e. a helpful lot who don't mind talking to the well meaning, ignorant, amateur, wood worker. I have cash!
A friend who is doing some repairs to the old lighthouse board tender Grace Darling found just such a place in Glasgow, though he did have to purchase rather more larch than he needed. He's not in at the moment, but I will try to remember to ask him and post the info later today.

Gilmore & Aitken in Alexandria are the people you need. Follow theA82 to the roundabout turn right towards Balloch, turn right at the next roundabout and they are about 10 minutes down the road.

Be sure to stipulate that you want real Teak, as some places sell semi hard woods like Aframosia (spelling?) or Maranti as a substitute.
How small of a peice of teak are you looking for?
I have some small peices of different hardwoods left from the two van loads that I bought a few yrs ago and resold/gave away/used etc.

So do you now have some nice if oddly-shaped bits of veneered marine ply going cheap? I may be able to help you recoup some of your losses.

Westfield Timber of Harriet Street In Rutherglen keep various hardwoods and marine ply. Also can cut to size and shape if required. I am sure the other companies mentioned are first class but just in case worth a try. :oldtroll:
