On Saturday it were crackin' t' flags and not a breath of wind so we went of a motor down to Bowness to get a break from scrubbing and cleaning.

On't way back I was proceeding in a Northerly direction and called to my First Mate to point out that a mobo was looking like it could be a near miss and really he should be going round our stern according to the By Laws, which are a verbatim lift from the Col regs.

Anyroad, I stood on and it became apparant that he would cross our bows, by about 2 boat lengths so all was well. Just as we got pretty close skipper of this boat comes out and starts pointing at fishing rods, shouting "we're fishing" and waving us off to go further West to miss his fishing tackle. I did alter course but not by much and not enough to satisfy the fisherman. If he had gone round our stern there would have been no problem. If he is going to act like he has limited manouverability, which he hadn't, he should be showing a day shape or something.

On Sunday there was a bit of breeze and mid afternoon we decided to have a sailing fix. Guess who pootled across our bows again trolling at 1 to 2 knots. We missed him by a bit more this time as we had more warning. Then he got tooted at by a ferry going into the new jetty at Brockholes visitor centre.

A cracking weekend, got a bit of sun, sore muscles with all the scrubbing, and had a play with our red white and blue cruising chute.

3. General Definitions

(d) The term “vessel engaged in fishing” means any vessel fishing with nets, lines, trawls or other fishing apparatus which restrict manoeuvrability, but does not include a vessel fishing with trolling lines or other fishing apparatus which do not restrict manoeuvrability.

Maybe he couldn't steer with a rod in one hand and a beer in the other. Beer probably does count as fishing apparatus.
