Sanda - The latest attitude

The way I see it is that the liability on a mooring only materialises if negligence in the maintenance of the mooring can be proved. These terms do not, IMHO, exclude such liability. So behind the words I cannot see that there is any real difference from normal moorings. I rather suspect these people will be scraping a living from a very short season, so for a facility to remain on Sanda then every penny counts (including money towards the cost of maintaining moorings).

BTW if you feel referring to me as a Solent sailor is geographically valid, on the same rationale I'd feel justified in calling you a Morecambe Bay sailor..

Hmmm..so foreign investment is'nt welcome? The website which states visiting yachts are welcome does'nt seem terribly restrictive to me!

It isn't 'foreign investment', it is a Swiss tycoon buying a Scottish island because he fancies it then trying to restrict access because he doesn't understand Scots law.

You are entitled to your opinion, but as I said, you have lived down there too long. We are used to our right to roam and anchor at will up here, and although the new owners' behaviour is the norm on the S. Coast - indeed would no doubt be seen as magnanimous - many Scottish sailors won't see it that way.

If memories go back to previous threads on Sanda, the website and the very large painted notice were taken as an indication that yachties (or any other hoi polloi) were not welcome, thus my OP on this thread commenting on a softening of the website attitude.
The bald wording is that yachts are welcome in the bay - try to stop us! - and yachties paying £10 for a mooring are welcome in the restaurant - whether anchoring yachties are welcome we shall have to wait and see.

Also, name one place where liability is accepted for moorings.

Absolutely everywhere, I'd have bloody well thought. If I am paying for a mooring then I expect the people providing it to take liability for the state of the equipment and to have public liability insurance.

There was a little confusion at the OG Croft when they said we’ll charge but accept no liability.

I might be a visitor there myself this season …. & I do hope there’s a mooring, as I don’t like to anchor & leave the boat (yet).

What’s wrong with being a ‘Morecambe Bay Sailor’ …… some great people from that part of the sea / neck of the woods.

Nothing wrong with sailors from Morecambe Bay , I would'nt be so puerile as to insult fellow sailors based on their geograpical location, cultural heritage, genetic origin or domicile of choice! Rather I would celebrate our shared interests and rejoice in the sense of community where working together creates a bigger cake for us all to have a share of!

What’s wrong with being a ‘Morecambe Bay Sailor’

I suspect it's a bit like being a Solway sailor. Fine when the tide's in, sand as far as the eye can see when it's out. Been there, done that, got the 45-degree-inclined t-shirt.

Yet, when Bill Cowie started to charge for anchoring in "Acarsaid Mor" and allegedly threatened to fill the place with moorings you were right behind him. (Although IIRC the charge turned out not be for Anchoring after all, but for use of his slipway.)
