Hallo to All. This is my first posting. I have been following the site for sometime and have met a few of the members over the years. My boat is an Albin Vega which is moored at Colintraive in Kyles Of Bute during April - September and ashore in Rutherglen dockyard during the winter. Also I am the Secretary/ Treasurer of the Rutherglen Cruising Club which is based at the dockyard. The RCC has 25 boat owning members and we are also members of the CYCA and River Clyde Users group. I recieve all the Upper Clyde notices to mariners and attend river users meeting etc. So if you need information on Upper Clyde? I shall look forward to shooting the breeze, and I hope you survive me being an Old Troll.
Regards to All. :troll:

Thank you for the welcome. Yes Nick I enjoy sailing the Vega. The Lyra was run down and in poor condition when I bought her nearly seven years ago, but is now in descent condition for 42 years of age. I shall try to be a constructive in any communications I make as much as an Old Troll can be anyways. I shall look forward to meeting you all once I am afloat. :troll:

Hello Old Troll. Sounds like you've been through the induction ceremony successfully, good to 'see' you.
I wonder if your Lyra used to be at Troon? Shame to hear she was let go a bit if it's the same one that pals of ours used to own.
Have to say we haven't noticed her at Colintraive, we seem to be focussed on Paper Moon when we pass by!.
Are you aware of the Clyde Scuttlebutt Cruise on 27th April?

Cruising, racing, maintenance facilities. Go take a look, you know you want to.

Nice to meet you. My boat is the Victoria 26 moored at Port Bannatyne in the summer - I've seen your boat in Colintraive a few times.

Welcome, Old Troll.
I am parked for the Summer round the corner at Loch Riddon but for some odd reason the boat prefers to move round to Colintraive when I am on board.
I can't work it out.
I pop up to the bar to find out if other boats have the same habit and, right enough, it seems I am not alone.
See you there or at the S'butt in April.

Welcome Aboard Old Troll. We met and spoke in Port Bannatyne in April last year. I sail Mistral, Vega 1789, out of Kip. Last year was our first on the Clyde. On the day that we met, there was a third Vega in Port Bannatyne, single handed by RabTout of Troon.

I seem to remember that you were aware of the other 2 Vegas in Kip.

Hope to see you again during the coming season.

Yes Ash I remember we met at Port Bannatyne and the other Vegas visiting. We visit Rothesay and Port Bannatyne often as we enjoy walking on Bute. I have also seen the Victoria 26 in the marina. As I said about Lyra being in run down condition, no way reflects the previous the efforts of the previous owner who kept her in Ardfern. Lyra had been rescued by him from Hartlepool and good repairs and improvements had been completed by the Ardfern Boatyard. However the improvements have been continued and between us the boat has been put in good order. The "other" Lyra that was in Troon I think I have seen now based at Ardrossan marina. I shall also look at the Scuttlebutt cruise in April. Last year we did not spend time in the Clyde as we were fortunate to have use of a friends mooring at Ballachulish. I shall look out for you all to say hello. :troll:

I'm sometimes impersonated by another V26 - in fact it wasn't until the other owner and I met at Chuck Paine's talk in London a few weeks back that we realised why people kept spotting both of us in places we weren't. Like me, he has tan sails, which is distinctive, but not distinctive enough! He's based on the Gareloch. There is also a V800 (same exterior) cutter based on a mooring at the Bute SC, but she's easily distinguished by an all-blue hull. Currently about ten slots along from me in the boatyard, but I haven't yet met her owner.
