I can assure you that Grimsby has been improved by the marina . . .

Coming from Liverpool where the Marina has ruined a perfectly good derelict dock, I disagree with you. I liked Grimsby fish dock before is was turned into a boat park.

Well, if you like derelict fish docks then fine - though some would say you are just a cantankerous auld eejit. Would you say that was a fair assessment?

They'll only ever get small boats up there. Currently the basin is more or less empty. A basin full of small sea going craft would create a terrific little thriving focus to what's become a residential area.

I can't see how it could ever happen, but if it does, great.

Having visited Hartlepool since the 1960's, the marina and dockside developement must be classed as an improvement.

Has anyone been to Ardrossan? I used to go down with my dad when he loaded bauxite onto the freighter there for transport to Widnes. I can assure you that Ardrossan is at least 1000% better with a marina than it was without!

Ardrossan was still awarded the carbuncle after the marina was established, It needed a bit more work done, and it seems to be happening.

Difficult. I grew up in Leven (on the "posh" (relatively) side of the river across from and downwind of Methil). I can remember the near-constant roar of export coal going down the chutes into freighters. Later, when the slurry fired power station was built, we had regular noisy discharges from the safety valves as the highly variable calorific value of the fuel played hell with the boiler pressures. And we won't talk about the acidic discharges from the flue...
