Breeze needs shooting

Post by Arghiro »

Some pretty dire pics on the telly. I hope everyone & their boats are OK.

In fact, I hope mine is too, but I haven't heard from the HM & that's generally a good sign, unless he is calling the lightly damaged ones first.

Eamonn deserves our sympathy and anything we can do to help. The pictures on TOP are very sad.

Mind, we never had winds like this before the ConDem coalition. I reckon the gods must be angry!

"The Other Place" - a pseudonym for YM Scuttlebutt which we tend not to mention or link directly but I'm sure this time it will be forgiven http://www.ybw.com/forums/showthread.php?t=296397.

Sad foaties - I hope it all gets sorted out quickly.

I was a vicious wind on Friday right enough. I went on board my boat in Troon marina intending to spend the night there before taking the boat home- five minutes later I was in a taxi to the South Beach Hotel...

Had no too bad a sail up to Tarbert today though.

Note to self- learn how to work in mast furling...

.
Just stopped in Connel on the way back from Glasgow to look at two boats on the beach there, both holed. The boat on the mooring beside us in the bay is now on the Ardmaddy shore. The next 24-36 hours aren't looking too clever either:

Mull of Kintyre to Ardnamurchan Point

Strong winds are forecast

For coastal areas up to 12 miles offshore from 1800 UTC Mon 12 Dec until 1800 UTC Tue 13 Dec

24 hour forecast:

Wind:
Southeast veering southwest 7 to severe gale 9, occasionally storm 10 later.

Sea State:
Rough or very rough, becoming high.

Weather:
Rain then squally wintry showers.

Visibility:Good, occasionally poor.

Outlook for the following 24 hours

Wind:
Southwest veering west severe gale 9 to violent storm 11, decreasing 5 to 7 later.

Sea State:
High or very high.

Weather:
Squally wintry showers.

Visibility:
Good, occasionally poor.

Fingers crossed Fairwinds rides out this one unscathed as well.

Fur fish 'n chips....

That's some forecast.

Glad I went down and replaced all my mooring lines with 14 mill.

Doubled up.

One boat sunk in Peterhead. Lovely little Newbridge.

It was next to an older Westerly that I haven't ever seen anyone around in the last 5 years or so. It has a big metal bracket on the stern, and when the crappy old stern line parted, it swung round and this bracket graunched a hole in the Newbridge.

Very sad.
