Oban marina has gone pear shaped, still trading as usual i believe, but for sale.
I wonder how far off Dunstaffnage is from going down the same line, especially with the current owner/management.

If you have any loose change left over after buying those two, there is also Port Edgar where the cooncil want out.

ScottishMarinas plc. Actually I do know a venture capital guy, maybe I could have a new career as a capitalist exploiter of quite well off boat owners.

There's one for sale in Port Bannatyne. Suitable for up to 2.5 tonnes, £500. Not mine.marisca wrote:You're right - swinging moorings are looking better every day.

Re: Anybody want to buy a Marina
How much do they want for the Marina?
If you do some sums on the number of berths, income per m etc and then then the cost of insurance, reinvestment into pontoons etc, it isn't a big money spinner, despite the high cost to the individual users. More of a lifestyle business than a moneymaker

Graham & Sibbald are selling it but I can't find a mention of it on their website. You could make a quick offer?Gardenshed wrote:How much do they want for the Marina?
According to the Oban Times, the marina was running profitably. It's the owner (Shawhead Developments, whatever that is) that has gone bust.Gardenshed wrote:If you do some sums on the number of berths, income per m etc and then then the cost of insurance, reinvestment into pontoons etc, it isn't a big money spinner, despite the high cost to the individual users. Re: Anybody want to buy a Marina
Oban Marina Shareholder Funds:-
2010-£476,250 -40.1%
2009-£339,902 -159.2%
2008-£131,135 -191.6%
2007 £143,121
So either Shawead have been using it as a source of funds for their other businesses or it has been losing money. Difficult to know from the abbreviated accounts that are publicly accessible.
Hope they find a new owner operator quickly.

Re: Anybody want to buy a Marina
From memory, they (Shawhead) had a pretty significant marine/leisure business in the Carib. Never really understood where Oban managed to fit into that empire...cpedw wrote: According to the Oban Times, the marina was running profitably.
