The new (green) boat arrives

Post by Fingal »

Unfortunately I was detained by official duties until 17.10 this efty but my syndicate partners did an excellent job on supervising the craning in, stepping the mast and motoring Cherry Ripe from Grangemouth to her new home at Port Ed. We may even have her ready for a little late-season day sailing by Sunday. All most satisfactory.

Congratulations on the new boat.

Maybe see you in Granton one day perhaps?

Surely that should be "Cherry Unripe" if she is still green????

Happy days, Best wishes to all who sail on her.
Assume you have the title track on disk ready to announce your arrival in P.E.

Granton? This is a boat that's crossed the big pond mate, she might rebel at being asked to visit Granton which as any fule know has hardly any water, more mud than Port Ed and is a crime hotspot  .

I will say thees ounly wounce:

The name does divide opinion, and is certainly a curiosity. The origin is that the boat was originally owned, and was fitted out by a chap called Malcolm Grimrod who was the son-in-law of the person (girl/woman) who modeled for Millais' famous painting 'Cherry Ripe' (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Everett_Millais). This fellow was only able to afford to acquire the hull and fit her out so well because of a substantial legacy from his mother-in-law. We felt that was too good a story to change the name, and perhaps more prosaically it is written in 'large friendly letters' along the mains'l cover. She may not be green for ever.

Like that Aussie bloke that used to play 'Down Under' on the way to Mericky's Cup races? What was his name again?

Cheers

from his motorboat Black Swan(?)
in Newport 1983 when John Bertrand beat the 'mericans in the Ben Lexcen designed 12m Australia II

Is that what you were referring to?
