I slept on the boat at Ashton on Friday night. I can report that the new ferries ran until after midnight and started again about 6am. The wee one's wash just gives the boat an energetic roll, the big yin's is a violent, bottle knocking-over, hold on for grim death, battering. In contrast the Festering Wherries hardly make a ripple and the Juno (if it wasnae the Saturn) running for the Cowal Games on Saturday is hardly noticeable. Give the new ferries their due, though, they did slow down when passing the racing yachts.
I reckon their attempt to dig a hole in the water is worse than the tugs' and must be costing a fortune in fuel. Any ideas how to deal with it? I understand that complaints have been made to the Calmac offshoot that runs them and to ClydePorts.

Aye, it's the Argyll Flyer that's the worse of the pair - a short, very steep, often breaking series of waves - watch the Pipers on their moorings. That is not to say the Ali Cat's is benign; it's just not quite so bad.

Was the race still in progress when the wind picked up?

I motored through the fleet in a biggish gap just behind the leading 4 or 5 boats. In my defence I was close behind a 'motorsailer' style boat who had a bigger wash than me

We motored from Kip, round the Cloch to No1 Buoy, then across to Helensburgh / Rhu Narrows. Had a good sail back in steadily increasing winds. Just on my limit for full sail rounding the Cloch but then a cracking beam reach at 6.5Knts though the water back to Kip.

This was our first time in that part of the Clyde. Would like to go back again for an overnight - can a visitors mooring be had at Rhu Marina or Royal Northern & Clyde Yacht Club?

PPS - Looking at the course details, then it must have been West Bay, not Gourock Bay - More a fault in my memory than my navigation.

PPPS - This box is now showing the fault mentioned in this thread, ie it bounces up and down as I type , I can see the line as I hit the key, but can't review it I stop.
I can use the scroll bar, but as soon as I type the fault reoccurs. This is on the laptop, not the netbook.

Do these lumpy ferries have square bahoochies?
The one at lochranza has. It's car ramp seems to go below the waterline, and creates a double wake which has a horrible pattern, and lasts for a long time, seemingly repeating, as the wakes do their algebraic addition.
Looks like we need another category of acceptability in the anchorage profiles, as "C" sure ain't going to change the ferries just 'cos we got grumpy.
