Thieving Barstewards!

Some dirty rotten barsteward stole my mate,s (Besula Bob,s) outboard from his tender at the steps at Millport pier on sat night between 1900 and 2230.
Lifted the aft end of grp tender up the steps and removed ob leaving tender on steps, either put it in car or on other boat.
A black Suzuki 2.5hp 4stk aprox 2yrs old.
Advisable to lock ob,s to tenders if going in there from now on.
Anyone see it for sale anywhere let me know.

Mine's "dremmelled" with the o/n in obvious places and then lacquered, giving a nice silver finish that stands out against the black.
Always padlocked through the clamps and wired through it's lifting handle to the rib rings and another padlock...

All serial numbers noted if hope?

Sorry to hear that Eamonn. Like many others, we've also been bitten once. Twice actually. We never used to lock ours, but after losing a Yamaha outboard motor and a set of (padlocked!) ladders while on the hard, on two separate occasions, our attitude has changed.

It is easy and perfectly justifiable to condemn the people who carry out these thefts, but who buys the stolen goods? It can't all be sold on eBay. Presumably other people who sail, but who don't care about the provenance of stuff they buy, are complicit. Looking at the television footage this morning, it seems that we are losing a shared sense of ethics and conduct.

I believe some never had any in the first place to lose.

The act itself is bad enough… but it places suspicion on others and creates a general bad feeling for all… with most of us being the honest, helpful and decent type.
