Give me an suggested plan for a pooter aboot in the Forth for a week - 10 days.
I would go Peterhead - Arbroath, but possible stop in Stonehaven.
Arbroath - ?? Granton perhaps
Then where?
How far up river can you get wi'oot takin' masts doon?
Ony places to drap the hook?
Ony places to avoid - Like grey funnel line places
Suggestions please.
Lots of good places to visit, nice anchorage at Cramond Island on the East Side if the wind's in the west and vice versa, the rock on the east side (Partan Rock) is well marked with white paint transits. Inchcolm has a lovely sheleterd anchorage on the N side, also Silver Sands Bay... Further East there's a nice anchorage at Fidra although the LtHo Fl(4)30secs may spoil your sleep and visitor's moorings, somewhat exposed, at N Berwick. You can lie afloat at Dunbar but don't go in there in other than calm conditions. Up the river there's Blackness Castle where you can lie alongside at HW to visit the Castle, and you can get up the river as far as Kincardine but it's not particularly attractive. There are the wrecks of 3 X-boats at Aberlady and a miriad other things to see.
I would aim for Granton, quite doable in a day from Arbroath unless it's blowing a hoolie from the SW, then go up to Rosyth to look at the Bridges, back to anchor overnight at Inchcolm or other chosen spot, then down to Fidra and Eyemouth and back North.
Nae doot Para will be on in a while to advise you to go to Holy Island and the Farnes instead. Not a bad plan actually
