Re: My existence on TOP is hanging by a snooksy thread
It's your own fault for going there. In an idle moment - which my wife says I have too many of, why don't I go and cut the grass? - I wandered to the Lounge and against my better judgement and aggravated by crap spouted by TimBartlett, I foolishly posted a reply. I wish I hadn't - it just led to an idiotic form of counter posting which was childishly competitive but sadly addictive. There are some gems of humour, information and wisdom but most of it seems to be trolling of the worst order and I felt ashamed to have joined in - it certainly wasn't going to change the eejits mind.
My answer is not to bother logging on to TOP unless I really wish to post. That way the Lounge doesn't even appear and temptation is avoided.
If I was you I'd regard a banning order as a blessed relief and an opportunity to kick the habit.
.... and stop posting links to the bloody place!!

Whilst I have - on this occasion, some sympathy for you - you really cannot resist the wind-up can you?
Perhaps Dr Shard could help you - he's very good at anger management.

Re: My existence on TOP is hanging by a snooksy thread
I've had a couple of run-ins with Tim in the past, but we have successfully resolved them by amicable PM exchanges. He can have an unfortunately aggressive posting style, but I have found him to be very pleasant and reasonable in direct communication and I hope I'll get a chance to meet and chat with him some day. However, I've given up on The Lounge altogether, as it seems to be a meeting place for the BNP with the occasional loadsamoney motorboater. Most of the Lounge posters, though, never appear on any of the boating forums: they just want a congenial place to share their opinions of blacks, asians, muslims, women, gays, socialists, foreigners and so on.marisca wrote:It's your own fault for going there. Having recently been involved in a fruitless and time consuming exchange with an illiterate idiot on one of the boating forums, I think I may just pull out of the whole shooting match. As for you it will save a lot of time. It's really tempting to fall into acrimonious and lengthy discussion with someone you'd edge away from on the bus.

I've no problem with Tim, but then I hardly ever read the Lounge. On Scuttlebutt he seems to consistently get his facts right.ubergeekian wrote:I've had a couple of run-ins with Tim in the past
A few months back some nutter rather aggressively said something demonstrably untrue on YBW. God knows why but I felt the need to correct him. I stuck with it for a couple of posts and got a nasty case of keyboard rage. SWMBO said almost exactly that and I broke off the contact.ubergeekian wrote:It's really tempting to fall into acrimonious and lengthy discussion with someone you'd edge away from on the bus.

In the winter I met up with a YBWer who's made a few rather odd comments. IRL he was in advanced old age and whilst being able to hold a conversation he certainly wasn't all there physically or mentally. I often wonder when he attacks people, and gets attacked back, if they realize they are literally mocking the afflicted. They certainly wouldn't argue with the poor old sod in real life.

I must admit, I imposed a ban on myself posting on forums (other than genuinely boaty and practical topics).
It is in my nature to get wound up far too easily, so I have found that the best tactic is to ignore the posts or just go away and surf some porn....... errrr I mean work on the boat !

.
Now Claymore, we cannot have you baring your arse to forum members on here - this isn't Cuan Sound or the T&T you know.
I want you to apologise to Shard by PM and copy me in on it, otherwise I might have to suspend you . . .

Er, if you have any links to any good 'boat maintenance' sites you know of, let me know. PM probably best.
Ahem.
As for the lounge, gave up many months back. Some decent folk, and many there prepared to have a decent debate on opposing sides without creating a slanging match. Unfortunately, there are a lot who don't post that way.

Goodness me! I don't think I recognise this place of which you speak.
But then I am fairly selective of whose stuff I read & definitely think twice before I reply. The MoBo section can be the Welsh equivalent of this place for Scots, and I have made a few fine friends that way. There are certain posters in the lounge whose posts I never even open, others I enjoy chatting with & sometimes teasing.
YBW has a huge active membership & there are bound to be few idiots in that, who cares, why waste your life letting 'em wind you up?

Nick, I think your adoring public should know that Snooks did a form of retraction, whcih I thought was reasonably sporting.
