Unfortunately we are over on the East Coast this weekend - back in Oban on Wednesday. Shard may be around. Where are you headed for next?

Sorry, it's a great shame, but I'm afraid that I won't be sailing for about another two or three weeks.Nick wrote:Shard may be around.

My next destination is Tobermory, on monday a lot of wind, stay there. It depends of the weather, maybe round Mull, maybe round SkyeNick wrote:Hi Rainer, harlekin wrote:It was a wonderful trip through the Caledonian Canal, today no best wind, use the engine to Oban. Now, I am back to Oban.
Tomorrow, I would like to go south to Crinan, is it possible to stay for overnight in the basin, without paying the passages to the crinan canal
Is the sealock operated by lockkeepers

You can't get into the basin without paying for the canal. The sea lock is operated by lockkeepers.
You can anchor in front of the sea lock, but I would only stay overnight if it is going to be pretty calm (looks OK at the moment). Carsaig is only about an hour S. from Crinan and is a sheltered anchorage. Sorry I missed you - I will be in Oban tomorrow later on, am helping a friend take his boat from Loch Creran down to Connell.

Re: my trip round GB
We moored in the Crinan sea lock on our way south at Easter, it was a disaster.
The water pouring over the top of the gate made a lot of noise but I thought that we were so tired we wouldn't be bothered. Stormy was disturbed by the lights too, it was a bad night and we really needed the kip.
Pick up a mooring at Crinan boat yard if you don't wish to anchor. Or look into Ardfern. Or behind the islands at Carsaig looks snug but we haven't tried there yet.

some good pubs on the hugh street (Jenny Lynn's?) or wander along to the Royal Ulster Yacht Club, explain that you are a yachtsman from Germany and you will most likely be made welcome.
