Just as we were disembarking into the dinghy this afternoon on our mooring at Kames a Pilot whale surfaced right beside the boat. Not 15' away. Never jumped back aboard quite so quick!
Surfaced another two times and never saw any trace thereafter - was heading south last we saw.
Brilliant.

In the Kyles today
Re: In the Kyles today
We missed you by a few hours.
I was in Eilean, Alex Morton's Colvic Sailor on Saturday night into Sunday, but we were away from the hotel moorings after brekky. Maybe it was the aroma of Alex's venison sausages that attracted the beastie.
What was of interest the previous day was that after years with a DSC radio I have never heard an alarm. On Saturday we had two. One casualty was off Pladda, the other off Ballantrae. Although we did not hear any open VHF traffic we did get the DSC source location.
In the Pladda incident Clyde CG had no open VHF contact but gave the position in an "all stations" shout, presumably from the DSC signal.
Both incidents were a good advert for DSC, if that was ever needed.
