I bought the 1 yd Saltire that I've been using for the past 12 years or so from a bloke in Cupar, but can't remember his details. I'd post a picture of Avilion with Saltire, but can't find one. Can anybody on the CC (this or previous years) assist?

About 5 years ago we were heading north towards Rubha Reidh when I was radioed by a Norwegian warship taking part in a NATO exercise. We had previously heard him call a fishing boat and, following a long interrogation, request permission to board, so we expected an "interesting" conversation. After a series of increasingly daft questions about what we were carrying ("I say again this is a private pleasure vessel with no cargo and no manifest...") the conversation then went something like:

"Are you flying an orange flag?"
"No, I think you must be looking at the float of my dan buoy."
"What flag are you flying, sir?"
"The Saltire, the flag of Scotland."

lengthy pause, then:

"Have a good passage, sir."

I sometimes don’t bother flying anything at all, I don’t TX on AIS, nor do I have radar….. but don’t tell anyone!...
