Working your ticket

Post by ParaHandy »

I have a friend who is intent upon leaving his employ with his redundancy package. He is of retirement age, a fact which he failed to mention, so will be hoping to collect his honorarium for working tirelessly (cue picture of our hero eyeing the bosom of one of his sponsors?) to further the education of the country's yoof.

Harrumph ... I understand that legally his position can not be replaced itherwise the auld goat's nae up fer ra golden haundshake, so, henceforward, I shall refer to him as an irreplaceable asset of the country's higher education; thus it will be known that the pish is being right royally taken.

I would fall asleep at the terminal/computer, about 3pm. Worked for me? Anyone got any ideas?

If your friend labours for a research intensive educational establishment then sleep may be seen as a productive exercise encouraging out the box thinking, however if it was training eagle eyed croupiers tghen it micht be a different matter ... no?

Am I right in thinking that past retirement age they can show him the door at no cost to themselves until the law changes?

I thought it was the other way about, He can sit there as long as he wants and they can't make him go so might be worth their while to pay him to go.

If his job can't (legally) be replaced, WTF has he been doing all these years, and should we demand a refund?

I have seen this management style - generally, whilst horizontal and scratching his box

Do you not think that an unexpected, large, windfall might encourage some serious OTBT? I imagine that a chap of his standing, albeit only rarely to have adopted this position, would collect quite a wedge from a grateful employer if they were convinced that the departmental throughput of meaningful fulfiment tasks would reach the upper quartile of objective orientated criteria? I'm thinking of his boat put into a bottle and mounted ..?
