I replaced the ST4000 with an S1 wheelpilot in 2007 when the wheel drive motor and gearbox failed so I now have available for sale the following:
Fluxgate Compass (bought 2007 but unused - suits several Raymarine autopilots).
Wheel drive (old; motor and gearbox damaged and in pieces, though the motor still runs).
Motor cable.
Offers around £75 anyone?

The compass is still available nut the rest has now been sold.

Does the fluxgate speak NMEA? (word "HDG")

I'm not certain but I think not; it has 4 wires plus screen to connect it to the controller. I think it's a dedicated Raymarine part, though its type has been used with several generations of their autopilots.sahona wrote:Does the fluxgate speak NMEA? (word "HDG")

Sadly, I think you will need one of these...

an E85001 NMEA interface. Bleeding eyewatering.

Re: Raymarine autopilot parts
Nah Jimlad - I can get a cheapie Nasa fluxgate for £70 if I really feel the need.
Funny thing - Garmin 4008 wants a fluxgate-generated 'ships heading' NMEAword(HDG) so that it can work out MARPA and overlay the radar on the charts, but a GPS-derived HDG word would be more accurate for MARPA, as it is the true collision course over the ground...(CCOG!)
I have to wire my old plotter to the new one to get the neccessary word.
I realise a GPS-derived heading will not accurately overlay the radar on the chart, but a flip of the wheel for a few secs would clarify any doubts on the displayed info.
Looks like the Garmin software should differentiate between the requirements for MARPA and overlay.
PS I won't get to play with this lot until we're splashed in april sometime, so no actual results until then.

My Garmin 4008 gets its heading info from the Raymarine heading sensor (fluxgate) via the autopilot course computer, Marpa etc works fine on the Garmin Radar and overlays, I guess the appropriate sentence must be available on seatalk.
I will not stay young forever but, I can be immature for the rest of my day's!

When Noah was setting up my boat, he subcontracted the steering bit to Autohelm, who at that time lived in the land of Nautech, way beyond the Tower of Babel.
Auto just sits in the dark and dank place that is its home, while its various bits talk gibberish to each other. We will never know the secrets they guard until the DanBrown box is connected, and, as Sir Cumference says, too many brown drinks vouchers would be involved...
