Following on from no weather at Dunstaffnage post, we had plenty of it last night, and the regulars here for the last few years said it will get a lot worse than that, so just bought 50m of 24mm mooring lines.
The pontoon in the picture below was where Silkie was a wee while ago..........
PS Gardenshed, your boat was still there.
.
I spent a night in Dunstaffnage in early October with a 45 knots NorthWesterly blowing in. It was I think the most uncomfortable night I have ever spent on a boat. We were snatching like crazy all night, enough to give you whiplash just lying abunk. I got up in the middle of the night to re-lash the helm and there were 2ft waves with foaming crests goong through the pontoons, which were rolling through 20 degrees or more.
Hopefully you will have no-one next to you so if there is a blow forecast you can position the boat in between two fingers, well hung off with lots of stretchy lines. I would strongly recommend some elastic snubbers if you do not already have them - we have found they make a huge difference.
Nasty. Glad I wasn't attached to it at the time. It must have been quite a lively night.
I think that's Neil's boat that you can see through the tree on the left. Merry Monster is just to the right of the tree and her skipper is the black blob in the cockpit. Orla is the tallest mast at the right hand side of the marina. Looks like the Polish lad has just launched his cat from the slip at the right of the frame.

Blue Shift is I hope still in about that corner of the marina - that's where we left her on Wednesday anyway.

I was up, briefy, on Sat with some friends but the weather wasn't encouraging enough to go for a sail & I didn't even get out to check for chafe on the mooring line. Lunch in town followed by the OSC prize giving had more appeal! Sounds like the boat will be better off on a mooring rather than bouncing and snatching on a pontoon.
Sunday morning was beautiful & peaceful but had to get back home.
Silkie:
Spot on. Hopefully no unpeasant surprises when checking the SAMs camera!

It's the usual tale of unrealistic aspirations...
The boat will be lifting out soon but we had hoped to get a bit of winter sailing in before that. The mooring insurance expired at the end of October.
