Freedom of speech
I was more than a little suprised that such a champion of small l liberal values such as oor esteemed webmeister should have such powerful censorship software running. I just tried to use the word 8ugger in a personal message to a dear friend and was shocked and appalled to see it rendered as blimey! I have just tested it again by typing 'b-ugger without the hyphen' at the end of the last sentence. blimey me, I thought, the annoying people (see it doesn't do it to a plural, how stupid is that) are trying to censor my fecking swearing.

Re: Freedom of speech
I admit to finding it galling when trying to use words in their correct dictionary sense to have them rendered politically correct by a machine. I'm glad to say there are ways to bamboozle the filter e.g.
shite = scottish excrement
bugger = blimey
fuck = flip
fucking idiot = fornicating idiot
etc.
... but it seems a childish way to proceed. As the probable recipient of Border Maid's pm, the use of "bugger" would have cast unintended aspersions on a fine gentleman's choice of travelling companions and the actual choice of word was much more expressive.

Re: Freedom of speech
I have found that the use of italics on part of the word or to change the font colour to Black (which it already is!) will confuse most idiotic swear filters. But I can't post this information openly can I?

Indeed not my good man, with an educashun like yours I should think not. My exasperation was that this nonsense occured in the context of a pm to someone who swers even more than me...Nick wrote:.

Re: Freedom of speech
There may well be a way to allow swear words in PMs but not in posts, but I have better things to do with my time than work it out - and you can always use the colour dodge in PMs anyway.Border Maid wrote:Indeed not my good man, with an educashun like yours I should think not.
