I was on a mooring at Dallens Bay (Linnhe Marine) last Thursday between ten and eleven o'clock when a RIB with no lights came into the pontoon just as a vehicle of some kind pulled up outside the big shed. We had only just moored up and secured the boat and weren't paying that much attention - I assumed it was something to do with the fish farm.
In the morning Paul, the proprietor, told us that several items including the big outboard off his workboat had been stolen and the shed had been broken into.
This week's Oban Times reports a spate of thefts in the Barcaldine / Benderloch area, and from Thursday night's experience it would seem that there is a gang with a RIB and a vehicle of some sort on the rampage. Anyone keeping a boat in the area might be advised to take extra precautions.

(Or phone Oban police station and ask to speak to Constable Jeremy Moore)
